Censorship
Would you be ok with picking out a book only to have someone snatch it out
from under you nose? My guess is no.This is exactly what would happen if we
allow reading mateial to be restricted for juvnial readers, therefore
censorship should not be .
One negative aspect of censorship is that it can limit access too imaginary
literature. By this I mean, books involving fantasies, magic, or unrealistic
plot lines would not be permitted. For instance , the Harry Potter series
represents a fabulous example of how good prevails over evil. However some
might interpret this plot line as unrealist and consider it a negative
influence on juvenial imaginations. Imagine if J.K. Rowiling the author of
Harry Potter, had her reading material censored. We would never have had the
privlige of expirinsing the wisarding world of Harry Potter.
Censorship would innhibit creativity for authors. In other words, authors
would be disscovredged from writing stories that people would not buy. For
example, authors might not write creativily if it ment that their books would
be restricted or negatively viewed.
Limiting access to books with real life issues does not help kids to learn to
deal with their own problems. By this I mean, kids need positive examples to
guide them while growing up. For example the book "Chains" demonstrates how to
overcome prejudice, death and the fealing of being abusted.
As you can see censorship is a bad idea. If people actually took the time and
relised that restricting reading material from juvenile readers is awful then
they will never try to. What I mean is that, Juvenial readers should be open to
new ideas not just the same books or reading material ver and over again.
Students need to be free to choose what they want to read not what someone else
is making them. This is exactly what would happen if we allow reading material
to be restricted for juvenial readers, therefore censorship should not be
allowed.
