The Hunger Games
What is the problem in the story? WHat caused the problem? Is there more than one problem?
The problem in the story is when Prim gets chosen to be apart of the Hunger Games. It’s caused by Effie Trinket who pulls her name out of the bowl. It gets solved by Katness because she
volunteers to take her sister’s place. There are more problems in the story; one
of them was when Petta told Ceaser that he loved Katness. It’s a problem because
Katness pushes him and his hands get cut up. Another problem is when Katness
gets stung by a few tracker jackets. That causes a big problem because she
starts hallucinating.
How did the author begin the story? Did it make you want to read more?
The author began the story by having Katness waking up going to a fence and sneaking out. She goes and gets her bow
and arrow from a tree that her dad made for her. She goes and spots a deer and
she tries to shoot it but her best friend Gale comes up and it makes Katness
miss it. It makes me want to read more because it’s interesting and you want to
know what happens next. It gives you enough information to make you feel like
it’s a movie and you’re right there, which also makes you want to read
more.
Are here any characters in the story that you would describe as brave/ smart/
foolish/ etc.? What did the character say or do that made you feel this way?
The characters in the story that are brave are Katness because she takes her sister’s place in the Hunger Games.
Peeta is also brave because he tells Ceaser that he loves Katness which is
something very hard to do. The characters that are smart are Gale because he
helps Katness shoot birds after she missed her deer. Katness is smart because
she knew how to take care of herself and her family. Peeta is smart because he
learned how to camouflage himself. Haymitch is smart because he knows what
Katness and Peeta need to do once they get into the games. All the characters
have characteristics but those are just a few.
Which character in the story is most unforgettable to you? Why do you like this
character?
he character that is the most unforgettable to me is Katness because she is so nice and brave. I like her
because she risked her life so her sister wouldn’t have to and that’s amazing
and nice. She learned how to hunt so her family so they wouldn’t starve. She
snuck out of the fence, which you aren’t allowed to do, so her family wouldn’t
and if she ever got caught she would have had her tongue cut off, and Avox which
is someone who committed a crime and has to do whatever people say. She did what
Haymitch told her to do when she got in the Games which were find high ground
and find water.
What emotions did you see as you read the story? How did the author reveal these
emotions to you?
The emotions I saw as I read the story were when Katness got mad at Peeta for telling everyone he
liked her. The author revealed it to me by the words she said and how she felt
inside. The author used words to show how exactly how the characters felt inside
and outside. The author used words to make it feel like you were in the Hunger
Games with them. When Gale snuck up on Katness in the beginning the author
showed it to you by the actions, sounds, and words Katness, Gale and the animals
made.
Are there any characters that could be removed
without affecting the story if so who were they?
No, if any of the characters got removed the story would be jumbled up. If Prim got removed who would Katness volunteer
for? If Ceaser got removed there would be no one to interview the tributes. All
the characters are very important because without them there would be a missing
part to the story. Each character that seems small really is big because even
if they only say one thing that is something that can’t be removed or there
would be a part of the story that doesn’t make sense. If Katness got removed
the story would be nothing. Katness is the main character along with Peeta, and
without her the story would be very confusing.
